She also said that she wasn't hurt, since she was in good company, because Winger had said that she didn't like working with other actors including Shirley MacLaine and Richard Gere. Carter, on the other hand, told Larry King that she was "surprised" by Winger's statements because they got on well and that she was a "tremendous actress". She later said that Carter was "a mannequin" who didn't want her to wear the same color eye-shadow as her. 
Then, she went on to pursue a film career and earned three Academy Award nominations. However, Winger was unhappy with the experience and used her salary to hire an attorney to get her out of her contract. After Winger was cast, Carter helped her out during the three episodes by being a big sister on and off the screen.
She screen-tested with several actresses to play Wonder Woman's younger sister Wonder Girl and told the producers that Winger stood out from the other candidates. She claims to be the first person who saw talent in a then-unknown Debra Winger.
